Jack moves through the vampire community to find the monster that killed his wife. He finds help in a young looking ancient vampire that leads him to a trap. Even the trap is a blessing in disguise as he is brought into the fold of a secret society that is willing to assist him, for a price. A young ward is assigned to him, and a vampire threat to the society is destroyed. Only then does he learn the true location of the monster he seeks. He finds an old fling to be a helpful contact. She and the new ward search out a way for Jack to achieve his revenge. Jack finds the creature and destroys it, leaving him without a purpose in life. He is offered a role with the society that has helped in, and joins.
